Monday New ArtI’m The Night and Why So Serious? (My Original Art)

Kazowie, Zap, Bam, and Pow Roboteers! Today’s brand new Monday New Art brings you all two fun Joe illustrations that parody a certain cape crusader and his awesomely crazy arch nemesis. The drawings are entitled, I’m The Night and Why So Serious.

Posted here for your enjoyment, this wonderfully wacky new art Monday, is both the color AND pre-color versions of this dynamic duo of drawings. These were a real blast to draw. I’ve been using Fifty Three’s Paper app on my iPad since March 2012 but just started using the water colors in the last few months, and I’m LOVING it!

I have a stylus but stopped using it about eight months (or more!) ago. So everything you’ve seen since then has all been done with my right index finger. It was unnatural and odd using my finger in the beginning, but now it actually feels more natural than a pen or stylus. There’s just something primal and free about it.

As always buckaroos, please do enjoy!

Our story so far:
In our last installment, the Noah the goon is bested by our flatulent action hero, the Biffeteer. Once the goon is defeated, our hero fearlessly made his way inside of the ominous Nazi Zeppelin cabin and was confronted by CB Sinclair, the evil leader and all around scoundrel!! Sinclair demands the X-346 Nuclear Fusion Power Cell from Biffeteer! As Sinclair was about to “pop a cap” in Biffetter’s “ass”, the Biffeteer lounges into action releasing one of his most powerful thrusts of ass-jets to date!! CB Sinclair is instantly vaporized, however, the ass-blast was so powerful the Zeppelin burst into flames!

(MODOK) Monday New Art — MODOKWOOF! Initial Idea Sketch! (My Original Art) - My Process!
Wowzers Roboteers, I haven’t made a Joe’s Process post in what feels like ages. In my process posts I try to show and explain how my creative process works.
Most of my posts show the extreme preparation I take before committing to the final art, today’s post shows like life, art can’t be forced into a formula. My process varies based on many factors including inspiration. The photo in this post is the ONLY prep I did for MODOK WOOF! That’s right, this simple sketch.
I woke up Thursday morning, March 21, 2013 at 6am. As I drank my coffee and tried to wake up inspiration hit me. I wanted to submit a MODOK to a blog I’ve followed for years. Somewhere between that first sip of coffee and walking out the door to get to work, I sketched this idea. It was the only pre-process work I did before drawing my finished version! It really has all the elements I wanted to get across in the final version. The bulging forehead, baggy eyes, large mouth, wrinkles, Kirby dots, action ‘burst’ lines, and of course the word balloon with “Woof”.
Once I started drawing the actual artwork, it just flowed out of me and into MODOK WOOF! - I loved every second I worked on that drawing. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did creating it.

I’ve wanted to do my rendition of the magnificently malevolent MODOK and participate in MARCH MODOK MADNESS for several years now. I think I first came upon the website in 2009 and it was MODOK love at first MODOK sight. Well, Roboteers, last Thursday inspiration struck me like a piano falling from a 30 story building in a Popeye cartoon… and BAMMO buckaroos… MODOK WOOF! was the result!
“WHAT THE F@CK IS A MODOK”, you ask dear Roboteers… let me illuminate you. Here’s some info from the Wiki:

MODOK (also written as M.O.D.O.K; acronym for Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing) is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in Tales of Suspense #93 (September 1967) and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

I’m very pleased and excited to be participating in this years MODOK shenanigans. I hope you all enjoy this illustration as much as I did creating it.
